Omakase in Paris

When visiting Europe, I usually don’t deviate much from bread, pasta (truffle pasta, specifically), and cocktails… I decided to try something very different this trip as a treat for myself and Neal :) His dream is to go to Tokyo and this Omakase was the closest we’ve gotten so far!

First off for those who may not know, an Omakase is typically a Japanese-style meal where the chef picks a variety of small dishes for you to enjoy.

We visited Okuda in Paris, located off George V, this tiny restaurant is tucked away and easy to overlook; however, you will be rewarded with an incredible meal if you can find it!

Things to know:

  • We paid $125 for 7-courses + glass of champagne each.

  • The restaurant is tiny so definitely make a reservation.

  • This is not for picky eaters (me). There are different textures, flavors, and styles of cooking from what I am used to! But I was brave and enjoyed it so much.

Dishes

Course 1

a jelly + miso broth with tofu (texture and taste similar to crab)

Course 2

a giant shrimp dumpling and mushroom, in a savory broth with green bean and carrot

Course 3

sashimi - served with yuzu, lime, fresh wasabi, and seaweed

Course 4

scallop + mushroom with jelly

Course 5

rice, tuna, and herbs wrapped in seaweed - my favorite

Course 6

miso soup with a potato and mushroom

Course 7

jellied citrus (yuzu, grapefruit, tangerine) with a French yogurt + honey gelato
