Easy Travel Day Tips
Travel day is stressful and exciting! Here are some of my tips to make your travel day a bit easier so it’s more exciting than stressful :)
Check in 24 hours before your flight - You should have the app of your airline on your phone and you should receive a notification that it is time to check in. If you don’t have the app or a notification, I always recommend having an alarm set on your calendar for 24 hours before so you can check-in.
It’s important to check-in early so the airline can confirm you are traveling and you can automatically download your boarding pass. Typically, if you check-in early, you are less likely to not have a seat on the plane. It also saves time at the airport as you don’t have to go to the counter or a kiosk to check-in.
Have screenshots of everything. I have an album on my phone with photos of important documents and add travel info for travel days. This album includes copies of:
My passport
My license
My Global Entry ID
I also create a folder in my email for each trip and add every email regarding the trip into this folder so I have access to all of the important information. This includes:
Hotel confirmations
Flight confirmations
Itinerary
Any bookings for restaurants, museums, excursions, transportation
Have your travel day outfit planned ahead of time and set out. I usually travel in a pair of loose black trousers and a loose top with a sweater available. Always socks and shoes or boots that are easy to slip off for security. No sandals or shoes with no socks. You do not want to go through security barefoot.
Have everything by the door the night before. I always have everything packed at least 2 days prior to departing, and leave everything by the door. Every single thing. This way I can just walk straight out when it’s time to leave and not have to worry about missing anything. This includes your passport, carry-on, luggage, etc.
Prep your home. I always try to deep clean my apartment and have an empty washer and dryer. It is so nice to come home to a clean space and you can dump your clothes straight from your suitcase into the washer.
Have a dedicated travel day breakfast. I have a go-to travel day smoothie. It is:
1 banana (balances glucose)
1/4 cup of oats
1 tbsp of ginger (to settle travel belly)
1/2 cup milk of choice
vanilla yogurt (I prefer a protein yogurt to make me feel fuller longer)
