Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen

If you’re a “Disney Adult,” or even just an adult who appreciates a theme park and rollercoasters, Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen has to be on your list.

Tivoli is unique in that there is something for everyone at this park - roller coasters, less-thrilling rides, a food hall, incredible architecture, shops, gardens, and shows. It is relatively small compared to any Disney park or the like, but still so much to see here!

We unfortunately only had a few hours to spend here and lost an hour because they closed early, so we did not get to fully explore the grounds and ride all of the rides we wanted to experience. I would recommend at a minimum 4 hours here.

Location

Tivoli Gardens is located in the city center of Copenhagen. It is just over a mile from Nyhavn, or about a 25-minute walk (7-minute bike ride).

There is also a transit station right next to the park so that is another option for you.

Price

They offer 3 ticket options:

  • Entrance - no rides, just entry into the park. This can include access to the shows, shops, park, and food hall. This costs 180 DKK, or $25 at the time of this post.

  • Ride Pass - If you decide once you’re in the park that you want to ride the rides, you can purchase a ride pass. This costs 189 DKK, or $26.50 at the time of this post.

  • Entrance + Ride Pass - I recommend just getting this ticket as they have a variety of rides and you’ll be covered once you’re there! This option costs 349 DKK, or $49 at the time of this post.

Attractions

As I said above, this park has something for everyone. The main attraction for me was the rides, but we also went during Christmas time so we were able to experience the Christmas Market as well!

They have over 30 rides, ranging from rides for children up to thrill rides. I was a bit shocked by the intensity of all of the rides… Every single one was quite crazy compared to any I’ve seen in the USA. We rode one ride similar to teacups (I’ve linked the description), but really the only similarity was the spinning aspect. The vehicle also flipped upside down and twisted. I have never ridden a more insane ride in my life.

If rides are not your jam, they also have arcade games throughout the park, and a giant arcade theater as well.

While wandering the park, you are surrounded by lush gardens and wild topiaries. The main eye catcher though is the theater. It looks almost Indian, or Southern Asian, and hosts comedy shows, musical guests, and a variety of performances.

And what theme park doesn’t offer shopping? They have dozens of gift shops and stalls, and if you go during Christmas time, there are even more opportunities to part with your money :)

Food

They have a giant food hall with dozens of international food options - sushi, ramen, Mexican, Danish, German, French, American, Indian, etc. Here is a full list of the food hall stalls.

There are also standalone restaurants throughout the park - French brasseries, Danish fusion, pubs, etc.

Finally, the Japanese Pagoda is a rotating residency for prestigious chefs. On their website, they say, “Only the most esteemed Michelin-starred establishments are granted the honour of showcasing their culinary masterpieces in the Garden, offering you a unique opportunity to experience gourmet cuisine from around the world.”
